Puckett Family | Back Creek Valley Overlook
The Puckett family chose the Back Creek Valley Overlook along the Blue Ridge Parkway for its breathtaking views of the valley below, rolling hills, and a vibrant autumn palette. Located near the Roanoke area, this overlook offers a sweeping panorama of the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains, making it a favorite for photo sessions and nature lovers alike.
The overlook was bathed in the warm, golden light of an early fall evening, casting a soft glow on the vibrant oranges and yellows of the changing leaves. The sun setting over the mountains just enough to create a stunning halo effect in some shots, highlighting the connection between the family and the natural world around them.
From the moment I first spoke with Kevin I knew this session with his sweet family would be so fun! From the moment they stepped out of their car, their adorable little fella was ready for an adventure. With lots of tummy tickles and silly faces, the laughter and playfulness between them were contagious. Their casual, coordinated outfits — a mix of cozy sweaters and khakis — matched the autumn scenery perfectly. Sweet baby C’s dress, in a vibrant flamingo pink, holds sweet significance in her family’s story. When Kevin and Kayla were dating they came to love flamingos following an inside joke between them after a shopping trip to TJ Maxx.
It wasn’t just about taking pictures but about spending quality time together. My favorite images from their shoot have to be the candid moments with the kids being themselves. Little N’s adventurous spirit came out as they ran along the road to go see the excavator sitting nearby, adding candid moments to the more traditional portraits.
If you’re thinking about family photos, there’s something special about choosing a location that means more than just a pretty view. For the Puckett family, the Blue Ridge Parkway was a place of memories of hiking, connection to their hometown, and beauty — and now they have photos to capture that feeling for years to come.
