Mill Mountain Star Family Portraits in Roanoke, VA
We all know life gets busy and family portraits often hit the bottom of the to-do list. As children get older and begin college, getting the family together can be challenging. This sweet wife and momma asked me to capture her family before the kids head out for the school year. Matt and I have had the pleasure of knowing the Rakes family for the past year or so. They are some of the most genuine, giving, and kind people we’ve met! I didn’t hesitate and had the perfect location in mind for them.
Most people in Southwestern Virginia and beyond are familiar with the Mill Mountain Star. However, I didn’t know about the park nestled next to the iconic Star until traveling up there last Fall. If you have yet to make your way up to Mill Mountian Park, it’s a must on your local bucket list. The gorgeous scenery is featured in these portraits including a flower garden, 2 overlooks, the Mill Mountian Zoo, and more. Needless to say, it was the perfect backdrop for the Rakes family’s portraits.
The summer evening sun spread glowy light all around us, making this sweet family shine even brighter. They were such a joy to work with! I love working with families with little ones, but families with older children are so much fun. Getting to know everyone a bit and learning their personalities allows me to help them shine in the images I create. Some may see family photos as having a reputation for being boring and stiff, but I love helping everyone feel comfortable and have a great time, no matter their age!
